History

  In the early 1920s, Wuhan university has opened professional courses in sociology and set up the major of sociology. Many prominent Chinese sociologists such as professor Li Da and professor Li Hanjun taught in Wuhan University. In 1952, a nationwide restructuring of institutes of higher education began, sociology was unfortunately shut down. Since 1979, with the restoration and reconstruction of China's sociology, Wuhan University has become one of the ten national universities which restored the teaching of sociology firstly and reconstructed sociology major. In 1983, teaching and research section of sociology has been set up in the department of philosophy, and began to open the sociology course in Wuhan University. In 1986, the former Chinese Education Commission approved establishment of Wuhan University in sociology. The same year began to enroll undergraduates.
